Aliquid Novi is produced from the historic Perold Vineyard at Mostertsdrift in Stellenbosch, the site closely linked to the origins of Pinotage. The vineyard, now part of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS), was planted in an experimental half-moon design with a custom double-trellis system to explore different aspects of vine exposure and vineyard performance.
This is a more restrained and elegant style of Pinotage, showing clear influence from the Pinot Noir side of its heritage. Aromas of red cherry, plum and raspberry are supported by subtle spice and earthy notes. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, with fine tannins, balanced acidity and a savoury finish.
Made in very small quantities — around 1,000 bottles each year.
