Founded in 2002, Sloemotion is a small family business based at Green Farm, in the village of Barton-le-Willows, just north of York and nearby to the market town of Malton in North Yorkshire.
Care for the environment is close to the heart of the business and with its low running costs, and highly efficient energy usage, Sloemotion’s Still works effortlessly at Green Farm bringing our craft distillation processes into the 21st century. Still have revolutionised the world of distilling, improving performance and accuracy and, crucially for Sloemotion, minimising impacts on the planet.
The chief distiller uses his experience and that of his team to review existing recipes and trial new ideas using their second smaller development Still.
The business began by foraging for fruits and botanicals from the farm to use as ingredients to flavour their creations. This tradition is continued on to this day for the premium Hedgerow Spirits and Sloemotion Liqueurs range. Foraging goes on throughout the year in the hedgerows around Green Farm and in the surrounding rolling countryside of Ryedale in North Yorkshire.
Once gathered, the foraged items are dried or frozen to preserve and concentrate flavours for use in the distilling and steeping processes.
Production
The combination of Shiraz wine, sloes & Hedgerow Dry Gin ought not to work, but it does! Once tried it’s impossible to forget. The jammy, velvety Shiraz wine notes with their blackberry elements combine perfectly with the rich, bold sloes and dry gin. An unusual but glorious blend of delight straight from the Hedgerow!
Tasting Notes
Nose: Deep, oozy, dark fruit notes, subtle blackberry elements, with gentle almond tones.
Palate: Rich, red wine notes with blackberry elements give way to drier clear sloe gin elements.
Finish: Rich and rounded, with a wine-y dryness.
Enjoy neat with cheese, as a British twist in a Sangria, or gently heat with winter spices for a warming punch.
