Are you a fan of White Burgundy’s rich, complex style but find the prices a little daunting? Look no further than the Domaine Girard Chardonnay Sur Lies Fines. This fantastic Chardonnay from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France offers a stunning expression of the grape, boasting remarkable depth and character at a much more attractive price point.
Tasting Notes:
- Aroma: The first whiff of Domaine Girard Chardonnay Sur Lies Fines entices with a bouquet of rounded stone fruit aromas. Think ripe peaches, juicy pears, and a refreshing burst of citrus. A subtle touch of oak adds a hint of vanilla and spice, elevating the complexity without overpowering the delicate fruitiness.
- Palate: The delightful aromas translate beautifully onto the palate. The wine is medium-bodied with a pleasing creaminess, thanks to ageing “sur lies” (on the lees) – spent yeast cells that impart richness and texture. Flavours of white peach, pear, and citrus dance on the tongue, intertwined with a touch of minerality that adds a refreshing edge. The subtle oak influence from ageing in oak barrels contributes a hint of vanilla and spice, creating a harmonious and well-balanced profile.
- Finish: The finish is lingering and elegant, leaving a lasting impression of the wine’s depth and complexity. The creamy texture persists, complemented by the refreshing citrus notes, making it a truly delightful drinking experience.
