Barbados-based rum maker Foursquare is celebrated for its complexity, vibrance and purity of expression. This 2006 bottling, drawn from a single barrel, perfectly fits the bill with its rich jammy sweetness balanced beautifully by baking spices and a deep, organic funk. An eloquent, bright bottling that demands exploration.
Tasting notes:
Nose: A bright, fresh, tropical fruit-driven rum, the nose opens with pineapple and melon, before deepening into pine resin and gingerbread. A zip of blackcurrant juice brings some freshness, ahead of milk chocolate and coconut, rooted in scorched summer earth. Sweet, inviting and intricate.
Palate: Immediately juicy, bold and vibrant, with citrus peels, charred pineapple, jam doughnuts and bread-and-butter pudding. Cinnamon custard, raisins and black cherry build in richness, while a fresh grassiness provides a lift.
Finish: Medium length with baking spices and lingering dried fruits.
