Criolla is one of Argentina’s mostly widely planted grape varieties but as an export wines its not really known. As a grape variety it’s actually been in Argentina for quite a long time, origionally used as Holy Communion wine, this one comes from 50 year old vines and is an absolute revelation. It makes a lighter style of red, often quite pale in colour and in many ways the opposite of Malbec!
“The 2024 Criolla Chica aged for 11 months in concrete eggs on fine lees. It opens with aromas of cherry, sour cherry, strawberry and a touch of earth. This is dry, delicate, expressive and flavorful. Its light grip supports a vivid expression.” 93pts Joaquin Hidalgo Vinous
