A wildly expressive, boldly peated Bonnington here, which really shows what the Edinburgh-based distillery is made of. Drawn from a new American oak barrel, the sheer power of the peat smoke balances perfectly with the abundant wood spices for a profoundly satisfying sip. With all that character, you’d be forgiven for thinking this Lowland release had hopped straight off the ferry from Islay.

Tasting notes:

Nose: A crisp, surprisingly fresh nose opens with rocket leaf, petrichor, and burnt toast notes. Red cherry and citrus peels quickly follow, ahead of a stonking waft of smoke: corn on the cob on the barbeque, smoked peanuts, smoky bacon crisps and roast meats. Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, apple sauce, cinnamon and vanilla pods bring detailed sweetness.

Palate: It’s a glorious continuation of the palate with added black pepper, dessicated coconut, olive brine and honeycomb notes. Red berries and dried florals add layers of detail, with the profile broadly dominated by plumes of roadwork smoke and charred tropical fruit.

Finish: Incredibly long with lingering smoke, chilli spice, and charred fruit.
