Alain Paret Wines was first established in 1972, 50km south of Lyon. The vineyard is planted on sloping, uneven hillsides and this difficult terroir is reflected in the character of the wines. Today the winery is managed by Anthony Paret, son of the founder, a skilled winemaker, continuing the work of his father with both passion and respect, abiding by her fathers wise words “only quality is rewarded, we cannot disappoint, we must excel ourselves every time.” The estate’s strength has always been its award-winning St. Joseph and Condrieu wines, but also straight Syrah and Viognier, in particular the Côtes du Rhône vineyard, Valvigneyre which, being from North Rhône is 100% Syrah.
Production
Valvigneyre is produced on the ‘Haut de Plateau’ vineyards of Limony in the Northern Rhone Valley, at 500 to 800 feet altitude. 100% Syrah vines (30 years old) grow on several of Alain’s finest hillsides in the 20-acre Domaine. Alain’s son Anthony skilfully tunes the expression of this terroir.
This grapes have been rigorously selected. In the vineyards only organic fertilizers are used to control the foliage, soils are deep, full of pebbles, granite with large crystals, clay sand. All treatments using sustainable farming practices, no insecticides used. Manual selective harvest.
Vinification under temperature control, 60% in oak barrel and 40% in tank. Matured 12 months on thin lees deposits with stirring. Synchronized with Lunar calendar.
Tasting Notes
A beautiful cherry red colour with notes of marmalade on the nose and soft, smooth tannins on the palate. With a perfume of soft fruits, raspberry, redcurrant, spices and blackcurrant.
Pair with red meats like beef and lamb, rich hearty stews, roasts and grilled meats work best. Recipes that incorporate marinades or braises with plenty of herbs and spices will mirror the spicy, peppery characteristics of a Northern Rhône Syrah.
