The 2023 Settlement Heritage Sauvignon Blanc is a single-vineyard wine that captures the essence of Marlborough’s most expressive terroir. Taken entirely from the renowned Heritage Vineyard, its 30-year-old vines and free-draining silty clay loam soils produce fruit of remarkable intensity and depth. This Sauvignon Blanc is far from ordinary, offering a balance of vibrancy, complexity, and texture that sets it apart as a standout example of the style.
Winemaking:
The Heritage Vineyard, located on the southern side of the Wairau Valley, is home to mature Sauvignon Blanc vines over three decades old. The free-draining soils, combined with organic farming practices, create fruit of exceptional concentration and character. A portion of the harvest was wild fermented in older French oak barriques, lending a subtle savoury note and enhanced mouthfeel, while the remainder was vinified in stainless steel using two selected yeast strains to build aromatic complexity and maintain vibrant freshness.
Pairing Suggestions:
This Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes. For vegetarians, it complements fresh asparagus, courgette fritters, or a goat’s cheese tart. For non-vegetarians, it shines alongside pan-seared scallops, grilled lemon chicken, or delicate white fish dishes, where its lively acidity cuts through richness and enhances flavour.
Tasting Note:
On the nose, the wine displays aromas of fresh citrus fruits – lemon and orange – layered with delicate spring blossom and a hint of pine needle. The palate is vibrant yet poised, with juicy tropical fruit notes, subtle herbaceous character, and a touch of lemon cream. Mid-palate weight and texture provide balance, leading to a long, refreshing finish with flavours of nougat, tropical fruit, and a gentle flicker of white pepper.
