Domaine de Vedilhan (pronounced ‘Domaine de Ved-ee-ohn’) is the estate of the Fayet family based in the village of Moussan, close to Narbonne.
Uniquely a brook runs around the estate which provides much needed water in this very hot climate, giving the wines their freshness and appeal.
Grapes for ‘Serica’ Viognier are plucked with acuity when it reaches its prime, ensuing two-thirds being barrel fermented with mature French oak, imbuing a subdued texture and lavishness. Its appellative comes from the Latin term for silk, ‘Serica’, due to the existence of sericulture – the fabrication of silk – in the region during the 14th century, a vigor equaling that of viticulture.
Tasting Note: Bitter-sweet crystalised orange peel aromas with powerful yet retrained flavours on the palate. Barrel-fermentation brings subtle texture and richness rather than a dominant oaky flavour, leaving rich stone fruits to shine through. The finish is complex, satisfying and well-balanced.
