The By Farr chardonnay originates from the same terroir as the Sangreal Pinot Noir (a volcanic red soil atop limestone) that was planted in 1994. This unique limestone, which begins 20 to 30cm below the surface and spreads into the root zone of the vines, is not present on the surface as with other sites. Moreover, the slope is a particularly exposed north-facing one.
The clones employed for making this chardonnay are an amalgamation of Dijon clones and Penfolds 58.
Tasting Note: Characterised by a restrained power and subtle length, this wine is distinguished by a mineral finish. Its fruit expression is harmoniously united with subtle French oak notes. Its origin is evidenced in its style, while the palate features finesse in tandem with firmness, acidity, and a lingering finish.
