The 2016 Château Gruaud Larose is a wine steeped in tradition, yet crafted with the utmost care and attention by modern hands.
The 2016 vintage is a reflection of both nature’s unpredictability and the winemaking team’s expertise. A mild and rainy winter followed by a cool spring led to a challenging start, with fungal pressure threatening the vines. Yet, come the second week of June, optimal flowering was achieved, and by summer, the vineyard was basking in perfect conditions. Grapes thrived, developing beautifully thanks to the rich water reserves stored in the soil. A final burst of rain in mid-September gave the vines the push they needed, ensuring an exceptional harvest.
A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and a hint of 2% Cabernet Franc. The wine then matures for 18-24 months in French oak barrels, 80% of which are new.
Set to age gracefully, but equally enjoyable now for those who appreciate the beauty of a finely crafted Bordeaux.
Tasting Note: With a deep ruby hue, it boasts aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis, and subtle hints of spice. On the palate, it is rich and elegant, with silky tannins and a long, layered finish. The balance between fruit and structure makes this vintage both powerful and refined, a testament to the legacy of Gruaud Larose as one of Bordeaux’s finest Second Grand Cru Classé wines.
