Champagne Pol Roger created their Prestige Cuvée in homage to Sir Winston Churchill mindful of the qualities that he sought in his champagne: robustness, a full-bodied character, and relative maturity.
The blend used to create this wine is a closely guarded family secret, but it is undeniable that it would meet Sir Winston’s approval. As he once said “My tastes are simple, I am easily satisfied with the best.”
Pinot Noir is the dominant grape variety, adding structure, breadth, and robustness, while Chardonnay lends elegance, finesse, and subtlety to the final product.
Composed exclusively of grapes sourced from Grands Crus Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards which were already under vine during Churchill’s lifetime. Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is only made in the very best vintages and is always released later than the other vintage dated Champagnes from Pol Roger, marking Churchill’s appreciation for older wines.
Tasting Note: A captivating, delicate stream of bubbles, that indicate the lengthy aging process in the renowned Pol Roger cellars. Spices and pepper greet the nose, followed by dark fruit, displaying the wine’s impressive concentration and density. A bouquet of dried fruit and hazelnut, with hints of exotic fruits. On the palate, candied fruit alongside subtle notes of pastries, brioche, and cocoa, providing a broad and satisfying mouthfeel. Structured to perfection, the high proportion of Pinot Noir adds a roundness and depth that defines this exceptional cuvée. Despite its youth, the wine already boasts a smoky weight and notable grip, with rich, full-bodied acidity. The generous finish culminates in exceptional length. Enjoy now or over 20 years.
