A Riesling of Vibrancy and Elegance
Pegasus Bay’s 2015 Riesling is a benchmark expression of North Canterbury’s unique terroir, offering both concentration and finesse. Crafted by one of New Zealand’s pioneering family-run estates, this wine captures the energy of the Waipara Valley while highlighting the Donaldson family’s meticulous attention to detail. It is an off-dry style that balances rich fruit with lively acidity, creating a Riesling of both generosity and precision.
Its low yields and carefully managed vines deliver remarkable concentration, while a hint of natural spritz adds lift and freshness. A perfect choice for those who appreciate Riesling’s ability to be both indulgent and invigorating, this is a wine that will impress now and reward further ageing.
Winemaking:
Grapes were harvested in May and gently pressed before undergoing a slow, cool fermentation to preserve varietal purity and vibrant fruit character. Retained natural carbon dioxide provides a touch of spritz and crispness, enhancing the wine’s lively profile. Careful handling throughout ensures clarity of flavour and a seamless balance between fruit intensity, minerality, and acidity.
Pairing Suggestions:
Beautiful with aromatic vegetarian dishes such as Thai green curry, or alongside non-vegetarian options like fresh shellfish, grilled chicken, or duck.
Tasting Note:
Mandarin, lime, and nectarine mingle with guava, lychee, and passionfruit. Concentrated yet elegant, with minerality and crisp acidity on a lingering off-dry finish.
