The 2007 Niepoort Redoma Tinto is a true Douro classic, capturing the wild essence of this rugged region. It’s a wine of bold character, brimming with complexity, structure, and elegance. Crafted from a mosaic of old vineyards in the Cima Corgo, this Redoma blends the best of both worlds: the concentration of century-old vines and the freshness of high-altitude, north-facing plots. The blend features Douro’s finest native varietals, including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, and Tinto Cão, making it a quintessential ambassador of Douro’s distinctive terroir.

2007 was a stellar year in the Douro, with evenly spread rainfall creating ideal conditions for balanced maturation. Niepoort’s meticulous approach began with handpicking grapes at peak ripeness. After a thorough selection process, fermentation took place in a combination of small stainless steel vats and traditional stone lagares, where the grapes were foot-trodden for optimal extraction. The wine was then aged for 22 months—60% in French oak barrels and 40% in large 2000-litre oak vats—allowing malolactic fermentation to impart a smooth texture while retaining freshness and acidity.

Tasting Note: Aromas of blackberries, macerated plums, and red cherries leap from the glass, interwoven with spicy hints and earthy minerality that speaks to the schist soils of the Douro.
