Made from grapes grown in Matetic’s Santo Tomas vineyard, situated in the Lagunillas sector of Casablanca Valley, this Riesling benefits greatly from the unique marine influence.
The vines grow on soils consisting of granitic diorite in various stages of decomposition, as well as quartz and clay. This exceptional terroir, combined with organic vineyard management, allows for optimal vegetative expression and a natural balance, resulting in a truly expressive wine.
By keeping the vines shaded with leaves, the fruit retains its freshness and produces delightful fruity and aromatic notes.
Hand-harvested grapes were gently pressed as whole clusters to yield a pristine and exquisite juice. One batch underwent a cold soak method to enhance the depth and complexity of flavours. The juice was then chilled and allowed to settle for 24 hours before being fermented in stainless steel tanks, ranging in size from 300 to 2,800 litres. Kept on the fine lees for 6 months, resulting in a fuller mouthfeel and heightened texture.
Tasting Note: Invoking a sense of luxury and exclusivity, this vibrant yellow Riesling boasts intense fruity and floral scents. Hints of apricot and a mineral essence are followed by subtle notes of citrus and a distinct petrol flavour. The palate is refreshing and voluminous, with a mineral and briny quality and a pleasing, lingering aftertaste.
