The grapes for EQ Chardonnay come from selected Mercier clones from biodynamic vineyards in the El Rosario Valley.
The vineyard’s soils have a texture of granite and sand, with the hillsides containing more clay than granite. The different sun exposure of each clonal selection leads to unique characteristics.
When the bunches are more exposed to the sun, the wine expresses more tropical notes. When the bunches are more protected within the canopy of the vines, the wine has mineral notes and excellent acidity. The impact of the nearby coast slows the ripening process, resulting in a high concentration of aromas and flavours in the must.
The carefully hand-picked bunches were fermented in French oak barrels using native yeasts. Throughout the 11-month aging process in varying-sized French oak, regular battonage was utilised without the addition of SO2.
Tasting Note: This Chardonnay boasts a subtle yellow hue, offering a bouquet of citrus and tropical fruit aromas, accented by hints of honey and a delicate touch of saltiness that is unique to our vineyard’s terroir. On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated, enhanced by a lively and fresh acidity, culminating in a long and refined finish..
