This blended malt – named for the original Gaelic name of Skye’s Knock Castle, aka Castle Camus to non-Gaelic speakers – brings together rugged island whiskies to create a range that encapsulates the Hebridean style.
Created by the owners of Torabhaig distillery, Skye’s newest distillery project. This expression from Mossburn’s Caisteal Chamuis range is a marvellous blended malt Scotch whisky made with Island malts that have been matured for 12 years in refill American oak hogsheads, and then given a finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks. The peaty notes of the Island whiskies blend deliciously with the sweet dried fruit notes from the sherry casks, making for a satisfying expression.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Roast chestnuts, chocolate digestives, dried cherry, savoury smoke.
Palate: Still has a coastal edge to it, though mellowed by vanilla and plump sultana notes.
Finish: Lasting earthy, peaty notes on the finish.
