Barboursville Vineyards is Virginia’s first wine estate to be dedicated to growing European, vitis vinifera wine varietals in Virginia. Planted in 1976, the vineyard was founded and continues to be owned by Gianni Zonin from Gambellara, Italy, who is a 7th-generation winegrower whose family’s enterprise, Casa Vinicola Zonin, has been in viticulture since 1821. Barboursville is Zonin’s sole winemaking endeavour outside of Italy.
Tasting Note: Intensely aromatic, showing ripe red berries, black cherry, plum, and caramelized fig layered with subtle barrel derived spice. The palate combines concentrated fruit with a vivid tannic framework, while Cabernet Franc’s freshness keeps the wine lifted and defined. Despite its structure, the texture remains remarkably supple, carrying ripe fruit and savoury complexity through a long, persistent finish. Dense yet elegant, the 2024 has the concentration and tannic architecture to support extended bottle development.
Origin: Virginia, USA
