Quinta do Crasto is one of the Douro’s great estates, a family‑run property with roots stretching back to 1615, perched on steep schist terraces overlooking the river. Today, the Roquette family oversees both traditional Port production and some of Portugal’s most respected Douro wines.
Crasto Superior Tinto is a polished, high‑expression Douro Superior red crafted from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Sousão, sourced from some of Quinta do Crasto’s best vineyards in the eastern Douro. The 2023 growing season was atypical and challenging, marked by a mild, rainy winter, a very dry and warm spring, and a hot summer punctuated by heavy rainfall in June and September. Despite hail pressure and disease risk, the grapes arrived at the winery healthy, ripe and beautifully balanced, resulting in wines with excellent colour, structure and character.
Fermented in temperature‑controlled stainless steel and aged for 12 months in French oak, the wine shows a deep red colour with subtle purple highlights. The nose is expressive and engaging, combining ripe wild berry fruit with woodland freshness and delicate spice. On the palate, it delivers precision and balance, evolving into a solid, structured wine supported by firm, finely polished tannins that provide depth and texture. The finish is long, elegant and lingering, clearly reflecting the identity of the Douro Superior sub‑region.
Crasto Superior Tinto is a refined, terroir‑driven Douro red, powerful yet poised, modern yet unmistakably rooted in the schist slopes of the eastern valley. A superb value for its class and a natural step up from Flor de Crasto.
