The Macallan 52 Years Old is an extraordinary and historically significant single malt, originally laid down in cask at The Macallan Distillery in 1969 and carefully nurtured for more than half a century. Owned by Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky since its distillation, the whisky matured for over 40 years at Macallan before being transferred to Duncan Taylor’s vaulted warehouses in Huntly, where it has remained under meticulous care as part of the company’s treasured ancient archives.
Inspired by the historic battlefields surrounding Huntly, this exceptional release is presented in a striking handmade crystal decanter shaped after the traditional Scottish “Dirk” dagger. The decanter is housed within a bespoke oak cabinet, handcrafted in Scotland by master cabinet makers to evoke the elegance and craftsmanship of antique weapons cabinets from centuries past. Both a remarkable whisky and a true collector’s piece, this release captures the artistry, heritage, and prestige synonymous with Macallan and Duncan Taylor.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Bright and expressive, opening with fresh juicy fruits, fragrant orange zest, ripe peaches, and dark cherries. With time, the whisky develops a creamier character, revealing cooling spearmint and subtle notes of blackcurrant cordial.
Palate
Rich, oily, and beautifully layered, delivering dried orange, delicate oak, and smooth milk chocolate. As the whisky evolves in the glass, softer tropical fruits including kiwi and lychee emerge alongside an elegant creaminess.
Finish
Full-bodied and robust, yet remarkably soft and soothing, leaving a long, refined impression of fruit, oak, and gentle sweetness.
