–From the website–
Established in 2022, Knotfield’s two-acre vineyard specialises in producing characterful, refined, traditional-method English sparkling wine.
As growers, we are deeply connected to the wine which arrives in your glass.
We weather the seasons and the ticking clock; we get our hands dirty and our wellies muddy, all for love and pride in what we do.
Each growing season shapes our wine, resulting in limited-edition, vintage expressions reflecting the moments which lead us to harvest.
The bottled blends of our cool climate varietals – Pinot Noir Precocé and Seyval Blanc – are considered and crafted.
Knotfield is always discerning, never distant; passionate, not pretentious.
And every pour is a celebration.
We are devotedly down to earth, so your wine can be too.
Vineyards
Knotfield sits on land overlooking one of Yorkshire’s oldest settled landscapes. Rawdon has been home to farming communities for at least 900 years – recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086. Long before vines were planted here, this hillside was valued for its fertile soils, its shelter and its commanding position above the Aire Valley.
Today, the site is proudly nestled in a conservation area.
Situated at 53 degrees above the equator, the vines enjoy a gently sloping, south-westerly aspect.
Sitting at 180 metres above sea level, and beneath Rawdon billing, the vineyard benefits from elevation and protection. And our proximity to the River Aire allows cold air to roll away towards the river, reducing our frost risk. Our soils are predominantly clay loam, and benefit from Leeds’ limestone belt, ensuring good drainage and nutrient retention. We are a minimal intervention vineyard, protective of our biodiversity – the wildflower, our beehives, and the family of deer, kite and foxes who share the land with us.
Knotfield Vines’ launched its inaugural vintage under the name of Rawdon, in homage to the land it originated from.
Our 2022 and 2023 vintages garnered acclaim from masters of wine in the UK and internationally, and were awarded a silver medal from Wine GB, and a gold in the International Women’s Wine Trophy – the only British wine to do so.
Now formally KNOTFIELD, all our premium English sparkling wines are limited edition, small batch, vintage releases. Crafted, curated, bottled for celebration.
As our vines mature, so does the complexity of our wine. And we love curating the perfect blends to bring the very best in flavour to your glass.
Our sparkling wines are made from two grape varieties that thrive in Yorkshire’s unique climate: Seyval Blanc and Pinot Noir Précoce.
Seyval Blanc forms the backbone of our blends, bringing vibrant acidity and crisp flavours of green apple, pear and citrus. It’s this natural freshness that gives English sparkling wine its energy and longevity.
Pinot Noir Précoce, an early-ripening relative of Pinot Noir, adds depth, texture, structure, as well as red fruit appeal and subtle spice.
The combination is beautifully balanced, producing wines that are both refined and characterful.
No two growing seasons are ever quite the same, and that’s part of what makes vintage wine so exciting. Cooler years tend to produce wonderfully crisp, citrus-led wines with remarkable elegance and precision, while warmer summers encourage riper orchard fruit, softer berry flavours and greater richness.
We celebrate these differences, allowing each vintage to tell the story of the season in which it was grown.
Tasting Notes
Fresh and crisp with flavours of green apple, citrus and pear, balanced by gentle notes of brioche and toasted almonds. Fine bubbles and bright acidity give the wine a refreshing, elegant finish.Â

All our bottles rest on their lees for a minimum of eighteen months, and often considerably longer. During this time, the wine slowly develops greater complexity, with the fresh fruit characters becoming layered with notes of brioche, toasted nuts, baked apple and freshly baked bread. The texture becomes richer, the bubbles finer and creamier, and the finish longer and more elegant.
Knotfield believes that great sparkling wine is the result of three things working in harmony: exceptional fruit, the character of each vintage, and the patience to allow time to work its magic.
It’s why every bottle we bring to you is a true expression of our vineyard, our climate and the season that created it.
