Created in 1986 ZINIO Bodegas was established as a cooperative by 200 viticulturalists who made their land available to the winery.
Positioned in the heart of the Rioja Alta , in the Najerilla valley; the vineyard is surrounded by mountains both to the north by Sierra Cantabria and to the south by Sierra de la Demanda. In addition, the Ebro river to the north and its tributaries the Najerilla river to the west and the Yalde to the south; that exert a strong influence on the character of our vineyards, which extends to over 450 hectares around the winery.
The winemaking team is lead by Carmelo Cámara. Their core belief is that wine is made in the vineyard, and this belief drives everything they do. Cámara’s addition to this winery represents a significant step in the pursuit of excellence and innovation in wine production.
Vinification
Vines are grown at 490m above sea level on clay and calcareous soils.
This vintage was marked by rainfall in winter & spring, lower temperatures in Spring with a delay in budburst. Moderate water stress in summer, long and controlled harvest.
Double grape selection, both when picking and on a sorting table as the grapes arrive at the cellar. Destemming, crushing and cold soaking. 10 days of alcoholic fermentation followed by 2 weeks of maceration of the wine with skin contact. Underwent malolactic fermentation before ageing process, 18 months in french and american oaks, followed by 2 years in bottle.
Tasting Notes
Picota cherry in colour with ruby nuances. Very complex nose, with ripe fruits, spicy notes of liquorice, toffee and cocoa. Silky soft mouthfeel with a velvety persistent finish – with hints of coffee, it is an elegant, round and expressive wine.
Best served with rustic and full bodied dishes, braised lamb & vegetables, game meats and cured cheeses.
